Dance Fitness: Classic Nia Movement
Nia isn't just a workout. It is a holistic fitness practice inspired by dance, martial arts & yoga.
Service Description
People from around the world have fallen in love with Nia for its joy-filled movement classes & soul-stirring music. Nia originally stood for “non-impact aerobics” in the 1980s, with the purpose of providing a cardiovascular fitness alternative. Nia has evolved since then into a wholistic somatic practice. It connects the mind, body, and spirit through the precision and power of the martial arts (such as Taekwon Do, Tai Chi and Aikido), the expressivity of the dance arts (such as Jazz and Modern dance) and the mindfulness of the healing arts (such as Yoga and Feldenkrais). A beautiful balance of freedom and form, Nia provides choreographed movement and asks you to do it “your body’s way”. As long as you are listening to your body, and moving accordingly, YOU JUST CAN’T DO IT WRONG IN NIA! We ask you to tweak the movements so that they fit your body’s needs and your heart’s desire to express itself. No one needs to look like anyone else in Nia class. People of all different ages, shapes, and sizes love taking Nia! Nia provides a wonderful opportunity to find that childlike freedom and expression while honouring your today body. Learn to listen deeply to your body and move in a way that feels good. Nia also gives you an effective cardiovascular workout that will increase your strength, agility, mobility, stability & flexibility. We practice Nia barefoot. The martial arts aspect empowers us to connect with our breath by using our voices, which can be especially powerful for any of us who want to find our voice. Ages 14+ plus wearing babies is welcome! Please bring a water bottle. Minimum 4 people required for class to run. Please book and pre-pay at least 24 hours in advance.
